Zerapia IS alive. Read Me.

Hello, My name is Jordan. (ReptileMan).

I have been programming pet sites since 2001. My skills extend beyond just PHP into flash, flex, image manipulation with GD (using php to do cool stuff, like layering images on top of each other :]), AJAX, and many other nifty things.

I have owned three pet sites that were public (and a 4th one never went public, 'Criaca'). They were

1. Kronikpets. You may have heard or seen these scripts floating around. I made these with help from OwlManAtt back in 2003.
   
2. Neorus v1. This was my next attempt at a pet site, using some skills i had learned from kronik, it was a good learning experience. 2004.
   
3. Neorus v2. This was my attempt to fix the things i did wrong in v1. It was very succesful, but closed because I felt it was going in the wrong direction. 2005.
   
4. Criaca. This was my private attempt, I was close to releasing it to the public, but due to a hard drive crash I had lost enough to make me drop the project. 2007.
   

Those are just the sites I have owned, I have worked for subeta v1, the original misticpets, and a few others I am forgetting.

I'm not saying this to brag, I'm saying this to convince you that I know what I am doing. That I have learned things about having a good economy, what draws users, what features are overplayed, what isn't feasible, and basically things that people who own their first pet site learn from mistake.

Myself and Owlmanatt have started to code a petsite based on what I have always wanted (Luya was to be the name). I then ended up stumbling into Zee, and was commissioned to program for you guys in exchange for art. But then, we decided that merging the sites is the best idea for both of us (Zerapia needed a programmer, I needed art). Surprisingly a lot of the features I had wanted, are so similiar to everything you guys have planned. A lot of the stuff that is already coded, is also planned for zerapia.A few overhauls on the pet system that is already coded has to be done, but beyond that.. everything coded so far matches the direction of Zerapia.

A lot is coded already, enough to probably consider it a functioning pet site that could be released. Zee and I are working on a new layout. The coding part is done, I'm just waiting for the images. OwlManAtt is graciously hosting the site on his server.

I am really excited about all of this, my goal is to make zerapia a pioneer into a new genre. The neopets of its type, something other sites will try to copy features from a few weeks after it is released.

But my main goal... Is to have a blast doing all of this, hopefully with everyone who is currently staff. Everyone who is staff right now (writers/artists/graphic artists/whoever) is welcomed to come along, and keep their positions on the site. If Zee hadn't of been doing art to get us programming, this might not have happend.
Zee has never left us, just been busy and trying to figure things out.

I know. and I applolgize,the lack of sleep and jet lag has made me a bit grumpy, and rude which I know is not a good excuse,I know Zee works her butt off and can't be on ever hour on the hour and...yeah. so again SORRY.!

Well I'll admit I haven't been the best staff so far ;P
But I'm extremely happy to see that the site is going to be progressing, and we're going to have someone with so much experience to help us. Welcome Jordan, and thank you. ;D

xD Well, I'll admit that I wasn't working my butt off during the time that Zerapia was really unactive for Zerapia, but hey, I'm here again, and I'm now working. =)
